Twig
From 2010 to 2012, I was Head of Content at Twig: an award-winning digital education innovator, producing and distributing film-led digital learning products for the international market.
Twig delivers packages of specially produced short films plus diverse support materials for teachers and learners, which are distributed via a proprietary platform with dynamic search functionality and links to international curricula. First product, Twig Science, encompassed some 2,000 engaging short films for KS2, KS3 and GCSE education, created with leading teachers and academics, using footage archives such as BBC Motion Gallery, CBS, Getty, Science Photo Library and NASA. Twig products are available direct to schools and consumers (B2C), delivered via national education service providers (B2G), or in partnership with leading international education suppliers/publishers (B2B).
Launched to market in January 2011, Twig products are now available in 10+ languages and sold into 20+ countries and territories. Major international partnerships include: Education Scotland (UK); Carolina Biological (USA), which provides scientific resources to 50% of US secondary schools, making Twig available to some 400,000 teachers and 10 million students; the Benesse Corporation (Japan), the market-leading home-study business in Japan, providing online educational services to 700,000 students; Spanish-language publisher Santillana (Spain, Peru, Argentina, Chile and Colombia) with a 30% share of the Spanish-speaking market; and Abril Educação, one of Brazil’s largest systemas, providing educational supplies and curriculum support to Brazilian private schools.
Twig was named Best Secondary Digital Content provider at the 2012 BETT Awards, and Best Digital Collections at the 2013 BETT Awards, considered the most prestigious awards in the digital education sector. Other awards include 2013 US Teachers’ Choice Award, 2012 Education Resource Awards, 2012 Learning on Screen Awards and 2011 Interactive Media Awards. The Company was nominated in the 2012 Education Investor Awards as EdTech Exporter of the Year and Education Business of the Year.
As Head of Content, I led a large multidisciplinary team across Twig’s dynamic product slate, and new KS2/primary science resource TigTag. I was part of the Company’s Senior Management Team and Operating Board.
